“If you don’t do it, how can we?”

I was speaking to a friend today who seemed quite forlorn about the direction of their life. They were saying how they had to pick up a second job on the weekend in order to make ends meet and they were concerned how large of an impact this extra work would have on their social life.

“Looks like this is the last free weekend for me for a while. Better go out with a bang!"

That statement struck me and I couldn’t help thinking about what I’ve been doing with my spare time. The answer was simple: absolutely NOTHING.

We tell our children all the time that they can be anything they want; we encourage them to aim for the stars or go big. So what happens when a child turns to us and asks the question, if you don’t do it, how can we?
